For consideration from a local estate sale is a vintage brass buckle of the Grand Commandery of the Knights Templar of the State of Indiana, Huntington No. 35 dating from the mid-1880's.
The original owner of the buckle came to the Oklahoma Territory in 1889 during the famous Land Run.The Orders of the
Knights Templar
of  Masonic Freemasonry tells the story of the Templar Knights who were few in number but were charged with protecting the pilgrims to the Holy Land.
Buckle measures 66mm X 53mm X 5mm and weighs 66.3 grams. The oval obverse bears the "Huntington Commandery" raised "35" insignia on an etched background. Reverse has belt loop accommodating a 45mm (1.3/4") wide belt. Buckle was worn with ceremonial dress of the Knights Templar. Rare 19th century Masonic collectible in excellent toned condition.
