This auction is for a wonderful Jim Slack Song Bird, a Scarlet Tanager. The scarlet tanager (Piranga olivacea) is a medium-sized American songbird. Until recently placed in the tanager family (Thraupidae), it and other members of its genus are now classified as belonging to the cardinal family (Cardinalidae).[2] The species' plumage and vocalizations are similar to other members of the cardinal family, although the Piranga species lacks the thick conical bill (well suited to seed and insect eating) that many cardinals possess.
Jim Slack was born in 1941 in Pekin Illinois. Both Jim and his wife Pat names are normally signed on the bottom of the decoys. Jim has been carving close to 40 years. Jim primarily carves duck and shorebird decoys.
