This item is one of a number of fine items I am consigning for the widow of a US Naval Commander who served his career stationed in many exotic places around the world. He and his adventurous wife and love of his life Sylvia, whom he met mid-way into his career while stationed in Australia, opted to take assignments and tour of duty a bit off the usually "more desirable" track officers frequently request as they advance, instead opting for more exotic regions around the world including Africa, Asia, South and Central America, Cuba and the Middle East. They were both "people" people who were thoroughly invested in meeting others from around the world and exploring their cultures and countryside with them. Gary was quite accomplished, serving in 3 branches of the military by the time he retired as he first enlisted in the Air Force Reserves while in college then served 6 years and later transitioned as a helicopter flyer for the Army, including time stationed in Alaska, into the in the Navy, where he trained in a number of jobs on a variety of type vessels, marrying Sylvia in 1975 and having two commands of own. Gary grew up in Kansas and from childhood Gary loved and collected old and beautiful things.  Sylvia and Gary had many adventures during their 40 year of marriage as they continued to travel even after Gary's eventual retirement. They loved to explore  the countryside especially the small towns and villages during time off as both enjoyed learning about the customs, foods,  geography and history of wherever they were stationed or traveling to, so the ambassador type duties affiliated with Gary's position including duties like hosting dignitaries from around the world was simply another bonus of Gary's position for this gregarious couple.
Collecting antique and vintage items was a lifelong hobby for Commander Cline and Sylvia quickly fell into seeking out and collecting fine items during their travels as well. Unfortunately Sylvia lost Gary after a long bout with cancer. She took his ashes on a lengthy trip around the world revisiting many of their favorite places before returning him to the waters in Australia where they first met. Years have continued to pass and Sylvia is ready to let their collections go. She has some charitable causes she feels deeply passionate  about she'd like to help out with the proceeds of her sales. Please do continue to check back to my Holy City treasures Ebay store for future listings as well as my Facebook page where serious buyers can make inquires about The Cline Collection.
